The Bernardo Interview: Why CBC won’t air it

Tue, 17 Jun 2008 11:01:42 PDT
As you might have read in recent days, an Ontario Superior Court judge has released copies of a videotaped interview between Toronto police and convicted murderer Paul Bernardo. Bernardo was interviewed at the Kingston penitentiary in June 2007 about whether he had any involvement in the disappearance of University of Toronto student Elizabeth Bain, who has not been seen since June 1990. Media, including the CBC, petitioned the court to permit the release of the tape (the tape doesn’t show any

Books: July 2008

Some books being published in July. Once in a while I make these types of to-read lists just to see what's coming out and as a later reference when looking for reading material, so thought I'd share one. I've listed all the cinema-related books I could find (just for you!), but the others are entirely subjective choices based on my own whims. If a title catches your interest, check your local library and favourite bookstore—and I do recommend the former, because some of these books cost ungodly

CopyCamp

First, people in the video: Rex Pechler David Cohn Rob Knight Quick recap of Saturday. CopyCamp was awesome. No other word for it. Anytime a newspaper opens its doors and lets its readers say what could be done better, that’s a good thing, and the Mercury News reporters and editors who came can’t be thanked enough. I don’t know if I could have after ending the week the way they did. Much as the discussion was haunted by the latest round of job cuts, there was, I think, still a feeling of

Tuesday and I'm really bummed because I thought it was Wednesday for some reason. I really went through the day thinking, "Hump day. Weekend's almost here." And when I sat down at the computer to write I noticed stuff saying it was Tuesday online and thought, "Huh?" I was so hopeful until reality sunk in! This is from Edward Luce's "Obama under fire over Iraq troop pledge:" US presidents have a history of abandoning campaign promises by pointing out that “the world looks different from here” w

And I'm off....

Sat, 28 Jun 2008 08:03:09 PDT
I'm officially off work for the summer. I don't go back until August 4th. I haven't had this much time off of work since I was 16. (with the exception of surgeries and child birth). I don't really have too much planned. We're a member of a local beach club, so I'm sure we'll spend plenty of time there. We (me, Michael, Holden, Riley, my mom, and Holden's girlfriend) are also going on a Mission trip for 4 days in July. We don't live very far from Nags Head so I'd like to spend a day there

Book review: Next generation wireless applications by Paul Golding

Sat, 28 Jun 2008 07:25:07 PDT
I have recommended Paul Golding’s books in the past – and his new book Next generation wireless applications is also highly recommended. Very few people can write a book of 600 pages on this topic .. and Paul is certainly one of those. It covers considerable technical depth and with an emphasis on new technologies like Mobile TV, coverage of both Mobile Web and Java applications development(including MIDP 3.0), emphasis on IMS, network elements including wimax, HSDPA etc I have used the first v
